Senji koattai (Gingee Fort) is a historically important place in Tamil Nadu, which has seen numerous wars between the Indians
(Jains, Pallavas, Chola kings, Pandya, Hoysalas, Vijayanagara kings, Muhammadans, Mughals) , British and French to capture it.
The Rajagiri (King's hill) is perched atop a intimidating rocky hill, and offers strategic advantage over other troops invading from the surrounding plains. There is Rani koattai(Queen's fort) on a nearby hill, which we climbed.
